7 Arrested at
Dog fighting Contest: Gun, Dog
seized
NEW ORLEANS
(4/19/07) – Early this morning, six
men and one woman were arrested and
each charged with one count of
felony dogfighting.
A makeshift dogfighting pit made out
of plywood was found in the garage
of abandoned house in the 1400 block
of Mandolin Street, a home in the
Gentilly neighborhood of New
Orleans.
Officers found one bleeding dog
kenneled in the cargo section of a
Chevrolet Tahoe vehicle owned by
30-year old, Eddie Moore, III, from
New Orleans. The second dog used in
the fight could not be found and may
have escaped with a fleeing
perpetrator.
At approximately 1:45 am, the
American Pit bull Terrier dog was
taken by the LA/SPCA to the Metairie
Small Animal Hospital for treatment
and care. The dog’s injuries include
many puncture wounds and a deep
slash through the mouth and up
toward the eye socket. It’s
predicted that the injury was caused
by a breakstick (see photo below),
which is a tool used to separate or
“part” a dog’s jaws that are locked
onto another dog. The breakstick in
this case was simply a jagged board,
which may have contributed to the
dog’s mouth injuries.
Also found in the car was a
concealed 45 Glock, a loaded
“magazine” and another loaded
magazine sitting in the console. The
bullets were hollow-point.
