Dog Found Skinned in St. Roch Area
Louisiana SPCA Offers Reward for
Information
New Orleans, LA (11/24/08) – Friday
afternoon a homeowner in the St.
Roch area arrived home to find a
deceased dog in her yard. She
immediately called the Louisiana
SPCA. An LA/SPCA humane officer
arrived on the scene and was
horrified to find that the medium
sized dog had been partially skinned
prior to its death.
Kathryn Destreza, LA/SPCA’s Director
of Humane Law Enforcement was on the
scene and believes the dog was
skinned then walked to the address
where it died later that day. “From
the condition of the wounds we
believe the skinning happened late
Thursday or early Friday. We don’t
really know why this dog had so much
of its skin removed. It may have
been a case of the dog being used as
bait and the perpetrator was
attempting to expose more flesh to
arouse other dogs, but we really
don't know what happened,” said
Destreza.
The LA/SPCA is offering a $500
reward to anyone with information
leading to the arrest and conviction
of the perpetrator(s) of this act of
cruelty. The perpetrator(s) face a
felony cruelty charge which could
involve up to a $25,000 fine and up
to a 10 year prison sentence.
Individuals with information about
this crime are asked to call
