Staff Opportunities
Adoptions
Client-Care
at the Shelter Check-in and accompany visitors as they look
for a new companion. Explain the policies and procedures of adoption
to potential adoptees and assist them with all necessary paper-work,
including the adoption contract. Input necessary data to computer.
Off-site
Adoption Team Assist with bathing and transporting adoptable animals. Set-up and
breakdown off-site location. Talk with prospective adopters while they
choose a new companion, helping them find a pet that fits their
lifestyle. Explain the policies and procedures of adopting from the LA/SPCA
and have them fill out all necessary paperwork, including the adoption
contract. Collect adoption fees.

Web Pet and Printed Publications Project
Take pictures of the adoptable animals for our website, as well
as various other outlets; including Craigslist, GambitWeekly,
Petfinder.com. Write descriptions based on personal interaction with
pet, feedback from staff, and information gained at animal intake.
Animal Care
Work directly with the animals at the shelter. Exercising and
socializing the animals is very important to their mental health.
Companion animals suffer without companionship. Due to the volume of
animals at the LA/SPCA staff has precious few minutes to commit to this
basic need.
Building/Grounds Maintenance
Our facility in Algiers is
always in need of upkeep, in everything from
carpentry to painting, plumbing to miscellaneous fix-it projects. Also,
in an effort to beautify the location and create a more adoptable
environment, landscaping and grounds work are an area of need.
Community
Outreach and Humane Education
“Show & Tail” school program
(Not Available to Teams)
Take your dog into the classroom and teach children the basics of
animal safety and responsible pet guardianship. Must be available
consistently on a weekday from approximately 10am-2pm, depending on
requests, and own a dog with a tolerance for large groups of small
children. Volunteers must also be able to provide a certificate of auto
insurance.
Information Circulation Booth
set-up and literature distribution at local community events,
education fairs and exhibits. Distribution and maintenance of LA/SPCA
info at local pet stores & libraries.
Obedience "Wrangler"
(Not Available to Teams)
Assist Dog Obedience instructor and students before and during
training classes.
Events
Pre-event committees and day-of event opportunities.
Foster Animal Care
Provide temporary in-home care for special needs animals.
Fundraising
Work
with the Development Director designing and implementing fundraising
programs. Organized individuals with account management , community
speaking and program planning experience needed. Sales experience
helpful. Good phone skills and professional demeanor required.
Office
Assist staff
with office duties including answering questions about
animal care, animal control and shelter policy and procedures.
Media,
Marketing and Public Relations Team
Help get
the Louisiana SPCA's message out into the community. Experience in
writing press releases, contacting local media and coordinating
marketing campaigns needed.
Veterinary Clinic
and Mobile Outreach Center

Assist Vet-Techs cleaning kennels, feeding
animals and greet/assist clients
Writers, Wordsmiths and Graphic Design
Polished professionals needed for a variety of writing opportunities
on an
"as-needed" basis. Graphic artists in demand for brochure and
mailing design, event invitations and signage.
