Larry and Moe
One
day, another volunteer, Ashley Hymel, and I were walking through the kennels and came
upon two wet, skinny, flea and ring-worm infested, grey, pitiful
looking puppies. Their faces touched our hearts, and we decided
to do what ever it took to get them adopted to good homes.
We took the puppies first to the clinic and they told us they
had ring worm and severe flea infestation. We were there every
day of the week lime dipping them and bathing them every other
day. The smell of sulfur seemed to never leave my mind but the
look of gratitude from those yellow puppies made it all worth
it.
When the ring worm started to go away, we decided to work on
their flea problem; this involved two days of brushing with flea
combs and picking the fleas off by hand. Everyday these grey
puppies started to look whiter and their spirits started to
brighten.
Finally after a week we realized that they were not naturally
grey but were white chow mix puppies. Ashley and I tried to
think of names for these two brothers but we could not find
creative names. So we asked the kennel staff, and they told us
that there used to be three puppies, but one died from flea
bites and emaciation. We thought of what came in pairs of three
and decided on the three stooges so the two surviving puppies
were named Larry and Moe.
Larry and Moe filled us with great joy seeing how great they
looked. They were socialized more with humans and finally
started acting like real puppies. Our goal was to try to keep
them together because they were so close with each other.
One day a family came in looking for a puppy, the little girl
fell in love with Larry's adorable face and great personality.
So, Larry was adopted bythe little girl and her family. When
the family was told that Moe and Larry were very close, the
grandfather of the
little girl came in and decided to adopt Moe.
He had a great love for animals and we knew both families were
perfect pet owners, and because they were in a family the
puppies would be able to see each other often.
Ashley and I were so sad to see Larry and Moe leave, but so
happy they went to good and loving homes. We felt accomplished
and a great sense of pride knowing we probably saved Larry and
Moe's life.
