About Adoption

Adopting from the Louisiana SPCA

Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue pet from the Louisiana SPCA! Every animal that adopts a human is spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm tested. Each adoption also includes a bag of Hill’s Science Diet food and dogs receive a discount on our training classes.

Adoption Process

Please know that our adoptions are done on a first-come, first-serve, basis and we do not place holds on animals. During your visit we will talk with you about the animals you’re interested in and find the best match for you and your family. Once a match is made you can take your new pet home!

If you’re unsure about an animal being a perfect fit try our sleep over option where you can bring an animal home for 72-hours to make sure it’s a great match. If not, you can bring them back and select another available animal.

$25 donation

Please be aware that we have the right to deny an adoption if we feel it is not in the best interest of our animal. If during the first 2 weeks after adopting you feel like the animal is not working out, you can return that animal to the Louisiana SPCA and select a new animal without paying a second adoption fee.

Before you adopt a pet, consider the commitment you are making. Adopting a pet is a big decision and should not be made without thoughtful consideration. Pets require a time commitment. Consider the life span of a potential pet before adopting. Some animals are better with children than others. Make sure your children have a meet-and-greet with any potential pet before adopting. Companion animals are also a financial commitment. Consider the cost of food, toys and enrichment, leashes, collars, tags, and veterinary care including annual vaccinations and ensure you are prepared for this financial commitment before adopting.

The Louisiana SPCA has a Community Clinic with services offered at a reduced rate. Services include spay/neuter surgery, wellness appointments, dental exam and surgeries, and heartworm treatment.
