UPDATE: 6/9/06 - PET EVACUATION BILL
(La. SB 607)
The House Appropriations
Committee
is meeting on Monday, June
12, to vote on La. SB 607
Thanks for the emails, letters and
phone calls you sent to the
Judiciary Committee. The committee
did not convene because there wasn't
a quorum, but no worries! Because of
the incredible public support
(your letters and calls),
there was a move to attach it to
another bill so that it could go
directly to Appropriations and
bypass Judiciary altogether. The
House Appropriations Committee is
meeting on Monday, June 12 to vote
on it! Your grassroots efforts
in contacting legislators have been
highly effective.
We have two more steps to go: 1)
passing Appropriations, and 2)
passing the House floor. Your voices
are needed once again; they are
crucial to winning the
bill’s passage at each step along
the way.
A strong presence will also make a
difference at the Appropriations
Committee meeting on Monday, so
please be there if you can.

Talking Points
-
Please let them know that you
support the bill in its original
language (SB 607), and urge them to
not support any last minute
amendments that will dilute the
bill’s effectiveness.
-
This bill will save the lives of
people because we’re saving their
pets.
-
Passage of this bill will define
Louisiana as a leader with this
lifesaving, groundbreaking
legislation.
-
A lifesaving measure is a
worthwhile expense.
Please flood the committee members
(listed below) with your e-mails,
letters and phone calls urging their
support and passage of the Pet
Evacuation Bill.
Also copy Governor Blanco’s
office on any correspondence.
The Governor's office needs to know
you're watching; they've been the
hardest sell.
