Roscoe Speaks Out,
"Why I Love Dog Day Afternoon"

Hi, my name is Roscoe and I am a shelter dog who was adopted by my family from an Adoption Day at Jefferson Feed. I LOVE Dog Day Afternoon because it’s my chance to see old friends and meet new ones!! I took my whole family to Dog Day last year and it was pretty special, because it was the first year we were back after Katrina.

Dog Day had everything just like I remembered it: the glorious smell of hamburgers sizzling, the background music of barks, and those delicious chewy treats they give away. I even drool over the funny contests that the dogs do to show off their humans. It was great to be home in New Orleans. I have to admit that my family didn’t walk with me to raise money for the other shelter dogs, but maybe I can woof them into it this year.

I enjoyed sniffing out all my old friends-- I especially like those big, beautiful white Great Pyrenees-- and I also met hundreds of new doggie friends of all shapes and sizes. It’s hard to be a wallflower on Dog Day. Every dog has his day, and this could be yours. I’ll be there early with my family again this year-- and I look forward to barking at you there, too. Remember, Sunday April 6th, in Audubon Bark.

On behalf of shelter dogs everywhere,

Roscoe Walker
