Kill vs. No-Kill Shelters, part 5 If the first step to cooperation is supporting - not criticizing - each other, the next step must be working together to meet the needs of animals and people within the community.
These needs are many:
People require - often demand that their streets be free of roaming animals who could potentially spread disease or cause injury. Companion animals need companionship - they deserve a safe, comfortable, interactive, responsible, nurturing home environment. Companion animals need a place to go if their caretakers will not or cannot continue caring for them. Homeless animals wandering the streets need protection from the elements, cars, other animals, and malicious humans. Sick and injured stray animals need immediate rescue and treatment, whether it’s in the middle of the day or at 2:00 in the morning. Animals require and people want real and perceived instances of animal neglect and abuse to be investigated and prosecuted. Animal victims of a large-scale cruelty or animal collector case need immediate attention as well as secure and reliable shelter.
