Kill vs. No-Kill Shelters, part 5

If the first step to cooperation is supporting - not criticizing - each other, the next step must be working together to meet the needs of animals and people within the community.

These needs are many:

  • People require - often demand that their streets be free of roaming animals who could potentially spread disease or cause injury.

  • Companion animals need companionship - they deserve a safe, comfortable, interactive, responsible, nurturing home environment.

  • Companion animals need a place to go if their caretakers will not or cannot continue caring for them.

  • Homeless animals wandering the streets need protection from the elements, cars, other animals, and malicious humans.

  • Sick and injured stray animals need immediate rescue and treatment, whether it’s in the middle of the day or at 2:00 in the morning.

  • Animals require and people want real and perceived instances of animal neglect and abuse to be investigated and prosecuted.

  • Animal victims of a large-scale cruelty or animal collector case need immediate attention as well as secure and reliable shelter.
