Private Dog Behavior Consultations and Day Training Now Available with the LA/SPCA!

Whether you'd like to brush up on some basic obedience, tackle behavior problems or address fear and/or aggression, we can help you reach your behavior goals.  We offer Private Training and Behavior Consultations where we teach you how to train your dog, and we also offer Day Training where we do the training for you!

What is Day Training?

Day training is having one of our trainers train your dog in your home during the day while you are away.  To begin the program, we would meet with you and your dog in your home to learn about your dog’s lifestyle and habits as well as discussing your goals for training.  Day Training is beneficial for people who need help with puppy socialization, basic obedience concerns, or anyone who does not have the time to train their dogs themselves.

With all of our Day Training services:

  • We train the dog for you while you are at work or managing your daily activities.
  • We provide progress reports and/or videos recapping our training sessions, along with an outline of how to help maintain the training until our next session.
  • We will have initial, check-in, and hand-off sessions with you present so that you can learn how to communicate with your dog and take full advantage of his training.
  • Day Training is only available in 4, 6, or 12 session packages.

Please fill out an online request form HERE.  An LA/SPCA trainer will be in touch with you within 72 hours once your request is received and reviewed.

The sooner you start training, the better!

Teach your puppy basic manners, address and prevent behavior problems, and provide an important socialization experience for your new family member!

(Six-Week Session)

During this six-week session, our trainers will teach you the methods most fully supported by the science of dog behavior and learning to help you and your dog live harmoniously together. And guess what? It will all be done without the use of force or pain, because we'll teach you how to MOTIVATE your dog to WANT to do things you ask him to do. He will LOVE earning tasty rewards simply by having FUN. And you will learn how to start thinking like a trainer. In fact, once you get to week six, you will be a trainer!  Some of the things that your dog will happily learn to do when asked nicely are Sit, Down, Pay Attention, Leave-It, Stay, Sit To Greet, Come When Called and Loose Leash Walking.

*Dogs must be friendly with other dogs and people*

(Come When Called)

Come-When-Called (recall) is actually easy to train, but is often under-rewarded or even accidentally punished.  Does your dog ever seem to suddenly go deaf around exciting distractions of other dogs?  Does he only come when called “when he wants to?”  This class will help you learn how to communicate with your dog and make him want to come to you.  We will teach you how to use food and life rewards to solidify this training to teach your dog to come when called, every time!

(Loose Leash Walking)

Does your dog drag you down the street on walks and make them downright stressful?  If you are interested in learning how to enjoy outings with your dog, try our Loose Leash Walking Class!  Students will learn training techniques and games to play with their dogs to encourage loose leash walking despite common distractions.

There will be three classes held at the Louisiana SPCA, and the fourth session will be a class outing to an on-leash, dog friendly area.  Dogs must be people and dog friendly.  There is no prerequisite, but a Beginner’s Class is highly recommended to get the most from the course.

(Brain Games)

We humans tend to be chronically over-stimulated – we crave down time. It’s understandably difficult for us to empathize with our dogs, who have the opposite problem. One of the most pervasive and serious - yet invisible - welfare issues for domestic dogs in the developed world is under-stimulation.

This 4-week class will help you learn new ways to challenge your dog’s brain and help to enrich his life.
