Volunteer Orientation

All volunteers who wish to work directly with the animals at the shelter facility or at off-site events are required to attend the Volunteer Orientation and subsequent training sessions. The orientation and training will not only provide an understanding of the mission of the LA SPCA as well as a description of the numerous volunteer positions available, but they will also provide invaluable and necessary information on animal communication & behavior, animal handling methods, and shelter protocols.

If you do not wish to work directly with the animals either at the shelter or at our off-site events, we still highly recommend attending the Volunteer Orientation. However, if this is not possible, please send an email to Katie Rivet at volunteer@la-spca.org and arrangements will be made for you to assist in non-animal related activities, such as manning information tables, assisting with youth and community educational outreach, staffing special events, and many other possible opportunities.

The volunteer orientation will last approximately 1.5-2 hours. During that time you will receive an overview of the history, mission, and services of the Louisiana SPCA, as well as an in depth discussion of the volunteer process requirements and the various volunteer opportunities which are available to you. After orientation you will receive an email inviting you to fill out a volunteer application. Once the application has been submitted, you will then be able to register for additional training sessions based on which volunteer positions you are interested in.

Dates are listed below, but are subject to change.  You must register for Volunteer Orientation as space is limited. Register online now! We can't wait to work with you!
