As 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the elimination of animal suffering, we are the oldest and most comprehensive animal welfare organization in the state providing care for 20,000+ homeless and companion animals annually. For more than 125 years, we have been committed to serving the needs of the people and animals in our community and across the region as a 4-Star Charity Navigator rated nonprofit ranking in the top 1% nationally.

Hours of Operation:

  • Adoptions Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday noon-4 p.m.
  • Animal surrender  Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m. 
  • To surrender stray animals to us before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m., enter through the back gate located on Mardi Gras Blvd. For directions click here.

Neighborhood Pet Adoption (Updated)

Find a constant companion from the LA/SPCA off-site adoption team. Adoption counselors and volunteers will be on hand to help you select the right pet for your family. We have a variety of four-legged friends waiting for a forever home!

Can't attend, then drop by the shelter; adoption hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday-Saturday and noon-4:00pm Sunday.

French Dog Contest @ Bastille Day Fete (Updated)

Dress up your pup! All French dogs or dogs dressed in French style welcome.

Take inspiration from this year’s judging categories:

Most French: Des baguettes, des berets, du fromage, du vin…need we say more?

Best Dressed: This is a fashion contest after all…

Most Jules Verne: Take inspiration from the world of Jules Verne. Themes could include: adventurism, science-fiction, steam-punk–use your imagination!

Choose one category when you register, or register 3 times to be judged in all 3 categories. 

Doggie goodie bagswill be provided by Canine Connection to all participants. First through third place winners in each category will receive additional prizes including dog toys and gift certificates for boarding, vet check-ups and grooming from Canine Connection, Prytania Vet, Petcetera, NOLA Bark Market, and Petco.
