Camps

The Louisiana SPCA offers several different types of camps throughout the year for various age groups. Our camps are designed to teach youth the importance of proper pet ownership and to instill compassion for our furry friends. Our camps fill up very quickly so we encourage you to register early!

Care Cadet Training Camp | 6th - 7th grade (summer)

Animal Investigators Camp | 4th - 5th grade (summer)

Camp Luv-A-Pet | 2nd - 3rd grade (summer)

Care Cadet Training Camp | 6th - 7th Grade

This camp is designed to teach young people entering 6th and 7th grade how to be humane educators to their peers. After attending this camp, many Care Cadet Alumni continue interacting with the shelter as volunteers.

  • Each day is filled with presentations from shelter department managers, veterinarians, exotic pet experts, a therapy dog handler and a service dog trainer; just to name a few.

  • Field trips include a trip to horse stables, where the kids muck stalls and learn about caring for large animals, a visit to an exotic pet hospital, and a trip to meet animals serving our city alongside police officers.

  • Working in teams, the Cadets are assigned a shelter dog/cat to train. Under the guidance of a professional trainer, they turn these cute and cuddly balls of energy into well-behaved adoption candidates.

  • The Cadets are tested weekly (don't worry, they'll love our tests!) on their new knowledge.

Cost: $500 for 3-week camp

Camp dates: June 3 - 21, 2019, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m, Aftercare available 3 p.m. - 4p.m.
